In the 1970s, Billy Steen, Sr. began buying, repairing, and reselling used tractors and farm equipment right from the roadside. What started as a simple, hands-on passion quickly grew into something more. Billy had a natural eye for value and a deep understanding of the equipment his customers relied on every day. He wasn’t just selling tractors, he was helping people get their work done.
As word spread and demand increased, what began as a side hustle steadily evolved into a growing business. By 1979, Billy had built enough momentum to consider taking the next step. With $10,000 in savings and the unwavering support and belief of his wife, Bille Jean, he made a bold decision. He left the security of his full-time job to pursue his vision full-time. It was a leap of faith that would shape the future of their family for generations to come.
In 1980, that vision officially became Steen Enterprises.
From the beginning, the business was built on hard work, honesty, and a commitment to doing right by every customer. As the dealership continued to grow, so did its offerings. Steen Enterprises expanded its inventory, introduced trusted equipment brands, and focused on providing not just products, but solutions tailored to each customer’s needs.
A pivotal moment came with the introduction of Kubota to the lineup. The partnership proved to be a natural fit. With growth came new opportunities, and the business remained rooted in family every step of the way. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Billy’s sons, Billy Jr., Adam, and Andy, joined the company. Each brought their own strengths, perspectives, and dedication, helping to carry the business forward while staying true to the principles it was founded on. What began as one man’s roadside operation had now become a multi-generational, family-owned dealership with a shared commitment to excellence.
